Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Asiconops exhibit the characteristic slender, often wasp-like body form typical of the family Conopidae.[1] Specimens display distinct coloration patterns on the thorax and abdomen, with visible pollinose (dusty) textures on various body segments, including the coxae and abdominal dorsum.[2]
General Information
Asiconops is a genus of flies within the family Conopidae, first described by Chen in 1939.[3] Some species, such as Conops (Asiconops) hwangi, have been documented in regions such as North Korea.[2] Morphological studies of A. hwangi highlight diagnostic features including transverse grooves on the front, a distinct black spot on the face between the antennae and the posterior eye margin, and a long, shining brown proboscis.[2]
