Visual Description
Museum specimen images associated with Ascute (genus Ascute; family Leucosoleniidae) show preserved calcareous sponges with an overall leucosolenid-like “tube/branching” growth form (asconoides-like aspect), consistent with syconoid/asconoid-grade architecture in Leucosoleniidae.
A small set of specimen images underlying this characterization are from the Naturalis Biodiversity Center (GBIF occurrence/museum specimen records).[2]
Nomenclature and Status
GBIF treats Ascute as an accepted genus name, attributing authorship to Dendy & Row (1913).[2]
