Asarkina ayyari is a hoverfly characterized by a slender, elongated abdomen typical of many Syrphidae. Observations from dataset imagery reveal a distinct abdominal pattern featuring alternating dark and light transverse bands, which is a common feature in the genus Asarkina. The thorax exhibits a metallic or semi-metallic sheen, and the wings are generally clear and held in a characteristic position when at rest. The head is dominated by large, prominent compound eyes, which are holoptic in males.[1]
Asarkina ayyari was described by K. Ghorpadé in 1994. The species is recognized as an accepted name within the family Syrphidae.[2]
