Visual Description
Asarkina is a genus of hoverflies (family Syrphidae). Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of this genus typically exhibit a slender, elongated body form characteristic of many syrphids.[1] The abdomen often displays distinct, alternating bands of yellow and black or brown, providing a wasp-like appearance.[1]
Ecology and Interactions
Asarkina species are known to visit flowers, acting as pollinators.[2] Documented interactions include visiting flowers of plants such as Stachys aethiopica and Jamesbrittenia microphylla.[2] They are also known to be preyed upon by other insects, such as the dragonfly Orthetrum sabina.[2]
