Asaphomyia texensis is a species of horse fly within the family Tabanidae. Observations from available imagery indicate that the species possesses a robust, fly-like body typical of the family. The specimens exhibit a brownish or mottled coloration across the thorax and abdomen, which may provide camouflage in their natural habitat. The wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, with distinct venation patterns characteristic of the Tabanidae. The eyes are prominent, occupying a significant portion of the head, which is a common trait among many tabanids.[1]
Asaphomyia texensis was described by Alan Stone in 1953. The description was published in the Journal of the Washington Academy of Sciences as part of his work on new tabanid flies within the tribe Merycomyiini.[2]
