Overview
Asaphomyia is a genus of flies in the family Tabanidae.[2] The genus was described by Stone in 1953.[3]
Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Asaphomyia exhibit typical tabanid morphological characteristics.[1] Specimens display a robust, fly-like body form with large, prominent compound eyes characteristic of the family. The wings are well-developed and typically clear or lightly patterned, and the thorax and abdomen show distinct sclerotized structures common to the order Diptera.[1]
Ecology
Interactions have been recorded between Asaphomyia floridensis and the plant species Sideroxylon tenax.[4]
