Visual Description
Based on observations of preserved specimens, Arthropeina flies exhibit characteristic features of the family Xylomyidae.[1] The body is generally slender and elongated. The thorax and abdomen often display distinct coloration, with some species showing brownish or yellowish tones. The wings are typically clear or slightly tinted, with venation patterns characteristic of the family.[1]
Overview
Arthropeina is a Neotropical genus of flies in the family Xylomyidae.[2] The genus was established by Erwin Lindner in 1949.[3] A taxonomic revision in 2014 expanded the genus to include six species: A. fulva (the type species), A. colombiana, A. diadelothorax, A. lindneri, A. melanochroma, and A. pseudofulva.[2]
The genus has a broad geographic distribution in the Neotropics, with records from countries including Guyana, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.[2]
