Visual Description
Arthropeas americana is a fly species characterized by a slender abdomen that is widest at the first or second segment.[2] Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show the insect has a distinct, elongated body form typical of its family, with visible wing venation patterns and a generally dark, sometimes patterned, appearance.[1] The scutellum is roughly triangular or semicircular and unarmed.[2]
Biology and Distribution
Arthropeas americana is a species within the family Xylophagidae, native to North America.[2] It was formally described by Hermann Loew in 1861.[3]
