Visual Description
Artemita nana is a species of soldier fly within the family Stratiomyidae. Observations of preserved specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset[1] reveal a compact, robust body typical of many stratiomyids. The specimens exhibit a distinct coloration pattern, with a dark, sclerotized thorax and abdomen. The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, showing the characteristic venation patterns of the family. The head is relatively broad, with prominent eyes that occupy a significant portion of the head capsule.
Classification and History
Artemita nana was originally described by Luigi Bellardi in 1862 under the basionym Acanthina nana[2]. It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Artemita[2].
