Artemisina melana is recorded as an accepted species name in GBIF. Its original authorship is given as Artemisina melana van Soest, 1984. [2]
In addition to generic placement, taxonomic work on Artemisina characterizes the genus in terms of absence of a distinctive choanosomal skeleton or definite spongin fibers, lack of echinating spicules, and a nearly radial ectosomal skeleton—traits used to delimit Artemisina within Microcionidae. [3]
