Visual Description
Arnoldiola atra is a small fly, characteristic of the family Cecidomyiidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult exhibits a delicate, slender body structure typical of gall midges.[1] The specimens display long, thin legs and wings that are relatively large in proportion to the body, with a clear, membranous texture. The coloration is generally dark, consistent with the specific epithet atra.
Ecology
Arnoldiola atra is a gall-inducing midge. It has been documented interacting with various oak species, including Quercus virginiana and Quercus hemisphaerica.[2] The species was described by R.J. Gagné in 1999, following the discovery of it as a pest of live oak in Texas.[3]
