Visual Description
As observed in specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Armigeres flavus exhibits characteristic morphological features of the genus.[1] Due to the limitations of the available imagery, fine-scale diagnostic traits such as specific scale patterns on the thorax or abdominal banding are not clearly resolvable.
Reproductive Behavior
Armigeres flavus exhibits a unique reproductive behavior observed in Peninsular Malaysia. Females have been documented carrying an egg raft beneath their abdomen [2]. To secure the raft, the female folds her hind legs, specifically positioning the raft between the tibiae and the first tarsal segments; these joints remain folded during both flight and resting states [2]. The individual eggs within the raft are held together by a sticky substance [2]. When the female is placed in a container with water, she releases the mature egg raft, which contains eggs with visible larval eyespots, onto the water surface, where the larvae hatch immediately [2].
