Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aristosyrphus prima exhibits characteristic features of the family Syrphidae.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated body typical of many hoverflies. Notable traits include a distinct, patterned abdomen with alternating dark and lighter bands, and large, prominent compound eyes that occupy a significant portion of the head. The wings are clear and held in a characteristic position when at rest.[1]
Aristosyrphus prima was described by the entomologist C.H. Curran in 1941. The original description was published in the Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History.[2]
