Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Argyrochaetona exhibit typical tachinid fly morphology.[1] They possess a robust, bristly body characteristic of the family. The thorax and abdomen are often covered in dense, dark setae (bristles). The wings are typically clear or slightly smoky, with distinct venation patterns common to the tribe Eryciini. The head features prominent compound eyes and well-developed antennae. Due to the nature of the available images, finer diagnostic characters such as specific chaetotaxy on the scutellum or precise wing vein morphology cannot be definitively resolved.[1]
General Information
Argyrochaetona is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae, first described by the entomologist Charles Henry Tyler Townsend in 1919.[2] As members of the family Tachinidae, they are parasitoids, with larvae typically developing inside other insects.[3] The genus is recognized within the tribe Eryciini.[3]
