Argyra vestita is a species of fly within the family Dolichopodidae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic form of the genus, which includes a head closely connected to the thorax and a somewhat excavated vertex.[1]
Biology and Classification
Argyra vestita is classified within the genus Argyra Macquart, 1834. This genus is divided into two subgenera: Argyra, which is characterized by dorsal hairs on the antennal scape, and Leucostola, which is characterized by a bare antennal scape. Argyra vestita (Wiedemann, 1817) serves as the type species for the subgenus Leucostola.[2]
General diagnostic features for the genus Argyra include a slightly concave occiput medially and a propleuron with one pale bristle on the upper portion. The hind coxa typically bears 2–6 vertical outer bristles. Sexual dimorphism is common in the genus, with males often exhibiting a silvery gloss on the thorax and abdomen, while females typically display yellow patches on the abdomen.[2]
