Visual Description
Argyra thoracia is a species of long-legged fly within the family Dolichopodidae. Observations from available imagery indicate that members of this species exhibit the characteristic slender, metallic-toned body form typical of the genus Argyra. The flies possess relatively long, thin legs and clear, membranous wings that extend beyond the abdomen. The thorax and abdomen often display a reflective, somewhat silvery or metallic sheen, which is a common feature among species in this genus.[1]
Taxonomic History
Argyra thoracia was described by the entomologist M.C. Van Duzee in 1925. The original description was published in his revision of the North American species of the genus Argyra, which appeared in the Proceedings of the United States National Museum.[2]
