Visual Description
Argyra albiventris is a member of the family Dolichopodidae, commonly known as long-legged flies. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, specimens exhibit the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the family.[1] The flies possess prominent, compound eyes and long, thin legs adapted for their characteristic movement patterns.[1]
Distribution and Records
Argyra albiventris was originally described by H. Loew in 1864.[2] The species is primarily known for its Nearctic distribution, with a range extending from Alaska in the north to Oregon and Utah in the south.[3] Additionally, it has been recorded in the Palaearctic Region, specifically from specimens collected in Bilibino, Chukotka, Russia.[3]
