Visual Description
Argentinomyia nigrans is a species of hoverfly. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that individuals possess a dark, predominantly black or dark-brown body coloration.[1] The wings are typically clear or slightly infuscated, and the thorax and abdomen exhibit a metallic or sub-metallic sheen characteristic of many Syrphidae.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Argentinomyia nigrans (Fluke, 1945) is a recognized species within the Neotropical genus Argentinomyia Lynch-Arribálzaga, 1891.[2] It was originally described under the name Rhysops nigrans by C.L. Fluke in 1945.[3] Recent taxonomic revisions have proposed Rhysops funerea (Hull, 1949) as a synonym for this species.[2]
