Argentinomyia aeneus is a fly within the family Syrphidae. Observations of preserved specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal characteristic features of this species.[1] The body exhibits a slender, elongated form typical of many syrphids. The thorax and abdomen often display a metallic or bronze-like sheen, which is consistent with the specific epithet aeneus (meaning "bronze" or "coppery"). The wings are generally clear and membranous, with venation patterns characteristic of the family.
Argentinomyia aeneus was originally described by the entomologist Samuel Wendell Williston in 1891 under the name Baccha aenea.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Argentinomyia.[2]
