Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Arenigena exhibit typical stiletto fly morphology.[1] They possess a slender, elongated body form characteristic of the family Therevidae. The head is prominent, and the wings are typically held in a way that overlaps over the abdomen when at rest. Classification and Biology
The genus Arenigena was established by Irwin and Lyneborg in 1981.[2] It is classified within the subfamily Therevinae of the family Therevidae.[3] The genus was defined as part of a taxonomic revision of Nearctic Therevidae, which aimed to improve upon previous generic concepts by utilizing diagnostic keys and descriptions based on synapomorphies.[3]
