Visual Description
Arctopelopia barbitarsis is a member of the family Chironomidae. Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits the characteristic slender, delicate body form typical of non-biting midges.[1] The specimens display long, thin legs and elongated wings that extend beyond the tip of the abdomen. The coloration is generally muted, consistent with many chironomids, though specific diagnostic patterns on the thorax and abdomen are often used for identification in this group.[1]
Distribution and Ecology
Arctopelopia barbitarsis (Zetterstedt, 1850) is a species within the subfamily Tanypodinae. It has been documented across all 20 biogeographical provinces of Finland.[2]
