Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Arctoconopa are small, delicate flies typical of the family Limoniidae.[1] They exhibit slender, elongated bodies and long, thin legs. The wings are generally clear or lightly patterned, often with subtle venation characteristic of the group. The thorax and abdomen frequently display muted, brownish or greyish coloration, which may serve as camouflage in their natural habitats.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
The genus Arctoconopa is recognized within the family Limoniidae.[2] Research has documented the presence of Arctoconopa melampodia in Turkey, including records from the Sündiken Mountains and Aydın province.[3] Biotic interaction data indicates that Arctoconopa melampodia is preyed upon by various species, including the birds Oriolus oriolus and Phylloscopus bonelli, as well as the bat Eptesicus nilssonii.[4]
