Visual Description
Arciellia xanthopleura is a species of long-legged fly within the family Dolichopodidae. Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits typical dolichopodid morphology, characterized by a slender body and elongated legs.[1] The specimens show a distinct, relatively compact thorax and a narrow abdomen. The wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, with venation patterns typical of the genus. Due to the nature of the preserved specimens, fine details such as setal patterns or specific coloration of the pleura (the lateral sclerites of the thorax) are difficult to resolve in detail, though the overall structural form is consistent with the family's diagnostic features.[1]
Classification and History
Arciellia xanthopleura was originally described by Hardy and Kohn in 1964 as Eurynogaster xanthopleura.[2] It is currently accepted as a valid species within the genus Arciellia.[2]
