Visual Description
Archytas metallicus is a robust, bristly fly characteristic of the family Tachinidae. Based on observations of specimens, it exhibits a metallic sheen on its abdomen, which is densely covered in prominent, dark, spine-like bristles. The thorax is also heavily setose, and the overall body form is stout, typical of the genus Archytas. The eyes are large, and the antennae are distinct, as is common in this group.[1]
Taxonomy and Research
The species was described by Robineau-Desvoidy in 1830.[2] A taxonomic redescription of Archytas metallicus was provided by Guimarães in 1963, based on material held at the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[3]
Ecology
Archytas metallicus has been observed interacting with various plant species, including Balduina angustifolia, Polygonella robusta, and Solidago odora.[4]
