Visual Description
Members of the genus Archytas are robust flies, typical of the family Tachinidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal that these insects possess a stout, bristly body, which is a characteristic feature of many tachinids.[1] The abdomen is often broad and covered in dense, prominent setae (bristles), particularly along the posterior margins of the segments. The thorax is also heavily setose, and the overall coloration frequently includes metallic or dark, patterned hues.[1]
General Information
Archytas is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae, first described by Jaennicke in 1867.[2] Taxonomic research on this genus has involved the study and synonymization of several species, such as Archytas marmoratus and Archytas incertus, as well as the description of new species like Archytas travassosi.[3] The genus is recognized as a valid taxonomic group within the Tachinidae.[2]
