Visual Description
Archistratiomys rufipalpis is a member of the family Stratiomyidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, specimens exhibit characteristic soldier fly morphology.[1] The body is generally robust with a distinct, flattened abdomen typical of many stratiomyids. The coloration includes dark, often metallic or brownish tones on the thorax and abdomen, with visible patterns on the wings. The head features prominent eyes, and the antennae are characteristic of the family.[1]
Classification and Nomenclature
Archistratiomys rufipalpis was originally described by Wiedemann in 1830 under the name Xylophagus rufipalpis.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Archistratiomys.[2]
