Visual Description
Archistratiomys luctifera is a soldier fly characterized by a robust, somewhat elongated body form typical of the family Stratiomyidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these flies possess a dark, often blackish or deep-toned coloration across the thorax and abdomen.[1] The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, and the legs exhibit a slender structure. The head features prominent compound eyes, which in some specimens appear relatively large in proportion to the head capsule.[1]
Taxonomic History
The species was originally described by R. A. Philippi in 1865 under the name Beris luctifera.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Archistratiomys.[2]
