Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Archistratiomys exhibit characteristics typical of the family Stratiomyidae.[1] These flies generally possess a robust, somewhat flattened body form. The wings are often held flat over the abdomen when at rest, a common trait among soldier flies. The coloration observed in the sampled images includes dark, sometimes metallic or patterned abdominal segments, and the head features prominent, often large compound eyes.[1]
Classification and History
Archistratiomys is a genus of flies in the family Stratiomyidae.[2] The genus was described by the German entomologist Günther Enderlein in 1913.[2]
