Archimicrodon sudanus exhibits the characteristic morphology of the genus Archimicrodon within the family Syrphidae. Observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a robust, fly-like body structure typical of the subfamily Microdontinae.[1] The specimens display a distinct, somewhat globular abdomen and a well-developed thorax. The wings are generally clear or lightly infuscated, with venation patterns consistent with the Syrphidae family, including the presence of a spurious vein. The head is relatively broad, with large, prominent compound eyes.[1]
Archimicrodon sudanus was originally described by the entomologist C.H. Curran in 1923 under the name Microdon sudanus.[2] The species is currently accepted as Archimicrodon sudanus (Curran, 1923).[2]
