Based on observations of museum specimens, Archimicrodon minuticornis exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Syrphidae. The specimens display a robust, somewhat compact thorax and abdomen. Notable features include a distinct, dark-colored, and somewhat flattened scutellum, and wings that are typically clear or lightly infuscated. The antennae are relatively short, consistent with the specific epithet minuticornis.[1]
Archimicrodon minuticornis was originally described by C.H. Curran in 1931 as Microdon minuticornis, based on specimens from North Borneo, including Mount Kinabalu.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Archimicrodon.[2]
