Visual Description
Based on observations of preserved specimens, Archimicrodon investigator exhibits characteristic features of the genus. The body is robust, with a distinct, rounded abdomen typical of many Syrphidae. The thorax and abdomen display a dark, often metallic or brownish coloration. The wings are clear or slightly infuscated, with characteristic venation patterns consistent with the family. The head is relatively large, with prominent compound eyes.[1]
General Information
Archimicrodon investigator was originally described by Hull in 1937 as Microdon investigator.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Archimicrodon.[2]
