Archilestris magnificus is a species of robber fly in the family Asilidae. It is considered the most derived and differentiated species within the genus Archilestris.[1]

Visual Description
Archilestris magnificus is a large robber fly, reaching a body length of approximately 40 mm.[1] Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show a robust body form with an entirely red abdomen covered in black pilosity.[2],[1] The legs are entirely black and notably robust.[2],[1] The face is relatively broad and conspicuously yellow pollinose.[1]
Distribution and Ecology
This species is found in Mexico and the United States (Arizona), where it inhabits open formations and desert environments, including the Mexican plateau and the Sonoran Desert.[1]
