Araiopogon gayi (Macquart, 1838) is a species of robber fly (family Asilidae).[2] It has been documented in the La Araucanía region of Chile, where it is associated with populations of the shrub Ugni molinae (murtilla).[3] Within this ecological context, the species is recognized as a predator.[3]
As a member of the family Asilidae, Araiopogon gayi exhibits the general morphological characteristics of robber flies. While specific diagnostic traits are best observed in preserved specimens, the species is represented in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset by various museum specimens.[1]
