Visual Description
Arachnocampa otwayensis exhibits the characteristic morphology of the genus Arachnocampa. Observations from dataset imagery reveal a slender, elongated body typical of fungus gnats in the family Keroplatidae. The adult specimens display delicate, membranous wings that are held folded over the abdomen when at rest. The body coloration is generally muted, often featuring brownish or yellowish tones that provide camouflage in their natural, dimly lit cave or forest habitats. The head is relatively small, equipped with prominent, well-developed eyes and slender antennae.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Arachnocampa otwayensis was described by Baker in 2010.[2] It belongs to the family Keroplatidae, a group of flies commonly known as fungus gnats. Like other members of the genus Arachnocampa, this species is recognized for its specialized ecological niche.
