Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aquachasma aquia exhibits characteristic features of the family Ephydridae.[1] The specimen displays a typical dipteran body plan with a distinct head, thorax, and abdomen. The wings are well-developed and clear, and the compound eyes are prominent. Due to the limitations of the available imagery, finer morphological details such as specific setal patterns or precise wing venation cannot be fully resolved.[1]
Aquachasma aquia was described by Mathis and Zatwarnicki in 2010.[2] It was originally described under the name Hydrochasma aquia.[2]
