Visual Description
Apteromyia claviventris is a small fly characteristic of the family Sphaeroceridae. Observations of specimens indicate a compact, dark-bodied appearance typical of many sphaerocerids, often associated with ground-dwelling or cryptic habits. The body is generally robust, with a dark, sclerotized cuticle. The wings, while present, may appear relatively short or reduced in some contexts, reflecting the genus's tendency toward reduced flight capability in certain environments.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Apteromyia claviventris (Strobl, 1909) is a widespread Holarctic species.[2] It is primarily found in leaf litter and various cavernicolous (cave-dwelling) habitats.[2] Within the Gemer area of Slovakia, it has been documented in the Zádielska dolina valley and the Veľká Žomboj chasm.[2]
