Based on observations of preserved specimens, Apterodromia spilota exhibits a compact, robust body form characteristic of its genus. The specimens display a dark, sclerotized exoskeleton. Notable features include relatively short, stout legs and a head structure typical of the family Hybotidae, with prominent compound eyes. The wings, while present, appear reduced or modified in their attachment, consistent with the genus's known morphology.[1]
Apterodromia spilota was described by Sinclair and Cumming in 2000. The species is recognized as an accepted name within the family Hybotidae.[2] The original description was published as part of a revision of the genus Apterodromia, which also included a redefinition of the tribe Ocydromiini.[2]
