Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Apsilocephala longistyla exhibits characteristics typical of its order.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated body form and wings that are held in a characteristic position. The coloration is generally muted, consistent with many members of the Asiloidea superfamily.[2]
Apsilocephala longistyla was described by Kröber in 1914.[3] Historically, the genus Apsilocephala and its species were sometimes associated with the family Therevidae; however, taxonomic treatments, such as those by Irwin and Lyneborg (1980), have excluded them from that family.[4]
