Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Apsilocephala specimens exhibit a slender, elongated body form characteristic of certain dipterans.[1] The head is distinct, and the antennae are notably long and slender, a feature reflected in the specific epithet of the species Apsilocephala longistyla.[2]
Classification and History
The genus Apsilocephala was described by Kröber in 1914.[2] In taxonomic treatments of Nearctic Therevidae, Apsilocephala (including the species Apsilocephala longistyla) has been formally excluded from the family Therevidae.[3]
