Description
Aprionus carinatus is a species of wood midge within the family Cecidomyiidae. It was described by entomologist Mathias Jaschhof in 1996.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted taxon within the genus Aprionus.[2]
Visual Description
Based on examination of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aprionus carinatus exhibits the characteristic delicate, small-bodied morphology typical of the subfamily Lestremiinae.[1] The specimens display slender, elongated legs and antennae, which are diagnostic features for many cecidomyiids. Due to the small size and the nature of the preserved material, finer morphological details such as specific wing venation patterns or terminalia structures are not clearly resolvable in these images.[1]
