Description
Aprionus arcticus is a species of wood midge within the family Cecidomyiidae. It was described by the entomologist B.M. Mamaev in 2001.[2] The species is recognized as part of the Lestremiinae subfamily, which includes various wood-dwelling midges.[2]
Visual Description
While specific morphological traits for Aprionus arcticus are best observed through detailed microscopic examination of specimens, the species belongs to the genus Aprionus, which generally consists of small, delicate flies typical of the Cecidomyiidae family.[1] Members of this genus are often characterized by their slender bodies, long antennae, and reduced wing venation, features common to many wood midges.[1]
