Apophoneura univittata is a species of fly within the family Heleomyzidae. Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a generally slender, elongated body typical of many acalyptrate flies.[1] Key visible traits include a distinct, relatively uniform coloration across the thorax and abdomen, and wings that are held folded over the dorsal surface of the abdomen in resting specimens.[1] The legs appear relatively long and slender, consistent with the general morphology of the family.[1]
Apophoneura univittata was described by the entomologist J.R. Malloch in 1933.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Apophoneura, which belongs to the family Heleomyzidae, a group of flies often referred to as "sun flies" or "heleomyzid flies."[2]
