Apophoneura superba is a fly characterized by a robust, elongated body typical of many Heleomyzidae. Observations of preserved specimens reveal a distinct, patterned wing structure with noticeable venation. The body exhibits a brownish coloration, with the thorax and abdomen showing subtle variations in tone and texture. The legs are relatively long and slender, consistent with the general morphology of the family.[1]
Apophoneura superba was described by the entomologist J.R. Malloch in 1933. The species is formally recognized within the family Heleomyzidae, order Diptera.[2] The original description was published in the work Acalyptrata. Dipt. Patagonia S. Chile.[2]
