Apophoneura is a genus of flies within the family Heleomyzidae, described by J.R. Malloch in 1933.[2]
Species within this genus, along with those in the genus Anastomyza, are noted for their resemblance to the family Rhinotoridae.[3] This similarity is primarily observed in the wing venation, specifically the presence of crossveins between the costa (C) and the vein R2+3.[3] For instance, Apophoneura punctipennis exhibits a wing pattern that closely resembles that of the rhinotorid genera Rhinotora and Rhinotoroides.[3]
