Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Apomorphomyia flies exhibit a robust, dark-colored body typical of many tachinids.[1] The specimens show distinct, dark, bristly legs and a compact thorax and abdomen.[1]
The genus Apomorphomyia is monotypic, containing only the species Apomorphomyia lygaeidophaga, described by Roger Ward Crosskey in 1984.[2][3]
This genus is endemic to South Africa.[2]
