Taxonomic Status
Apolysis szappanosi Papp, 2005, has been determined to be a junior synonym of Apolysis pusilla (Paramonov) [2]. The species was originally described by L. Papp in 2005 [3]. Recent taxonomic work has involved a review of the genus Apolysis in Iran, which included a redescription of the species [2].
Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, specimens identified as Apolysis szappanosi exhibit the characteristic body form of the family Bombyliidae [1]. Due to the limitations of the available photographic material, fine morphological diagnostic traits cannot be resolved; however, the general habitus is consistent with small, bee-like flies typical of the genus [1].
