Visual Description
Apolephthisa subincana is a fungus gnat. Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits typical mycetophilid morphology, characterized by a slender body, elongated legs, and prominent, rounded eyes. The wings are clear and membranous, with characteristic venation patterns typical of the family. The body coloration is generally brownish, consistent with many species in the family Mycetophilidae.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Apolephthisa subincana (Curtis, 1837) is an accepted species within the family Mycetophilidae.[2] It was originally described by John Curtis in 1837 as Sciophila subincana.[2]
In ecological studies, this species has been recorded in linden-oak-hornbeam woods (Tilio-Carpinetum), such as those found in the Białowieża National Park, Poland.[3] Research conducted between 1962 and 1966 in these habitats documented the presence of A. subincana using sweep-net sampling, where it was found with varying frequencies across different forest study sites.[3]
