Biology and Ecology
Apocephalus apivorus is a species of phorid fly described by Brown in 1996.[2] It has been observed parasitizing drones of the stingless bee Cephalotrigona capitata.[3]
In field observations in Costa Rica, female A. apivorus were documented attempting to oviposit in drones gathered in swarms outside of hives. Research indicates that a significant proportion of C. capitata drones can be parasitized by this fly, whereas workers of the same bee species were not found to be parasitized.[3]
Visual Description

The specimens exhibit the general body plan characteristic of the family Phoridae, including a small, humpbacked appearance.
