Aplysinella rhax is a marine sponge species in the family Aplysinellidae (order Verongiida). GBIF lists it as an accepted species name, authored as (de Laubenfels, 1954) and with a basionym in Dysidea (i.e., Dysidea rhax).[2]

Aplysinella rhax has been investigated as a source of bromotyrosine-derived natural products, including psammaplin A and bisaprasin. In a study using the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, these compounds were tested for antiquorum-sensing activity by assessing inhibition of quorum-sensing promoter reporters (lasB and rhlA) using GFP biosensors. The work reported inhibition in dose–response assays, providing evidence that sponge-derived compounds from A. rhax can interfere with bacterial quorum-sensing regulation linked to biofilm and virulence traits.[3]
