Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Apiocera monticola exhibits the characteristic elongated, slender body form typical of the family Apioceridae.[1] The specimens display a distinct, tapering abdomen and prominent, forward-facing eyes. The wings are generally clear and held in a position that reveals the underlying thoracic structure. The body is covered in fine, dense pubescence, which contributes to its overall textured appearance.[1]
Apiocera monticola was described by J.N. Artigas in 1970.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted taxon within the genus Apiocera.[2] Its original description was published in the Boletín de la Sociedad de Biología de Concepción.[2]
